I think snsd and Kara have almost the same number of hardcore fans, but the reason why kara does better is because kara has more casual fans and are more recognized by the public. Plus the fact snsd has a huge Korean and international fan-base that help boost their Japanese sales, and Kara still does better than them in Japan says a lot.
