  1. Think of it this way. It's not really for the money necessarily. I am sure all 5 girls have enough money to last the rest of their lives (assuming they invested and are investing properly). It's a matter of how they want to build their career. Certain idols want to be famous (Lee Joon, Krystal), others want to make money (think Siwon, Yoona), and others love the job (Seungyeon is sorta a mixture of fame+job, Min, Jay Park). Other's want to build a career (Lee Sooman, YG, JYP, Psy, GDragon, Hyori) Then there is that bracket of Idols who just obey. Generally speaking they are younger idols who don't really KNOW what they want out of life yet (Suzy, Hyeri, etc). Nicole doesn't do it for the money (hence why she is giving up money for this chance), she is already mega famous, and I don't know how much she loves the job (She doesn't like the way she is treated in DSP, but she loves socializing with Idols). I don't think Nicole is that GD, Psy, Hyori, Brian type of Idol where she wants to build a career and found her own company, but she definitely wants some artistic freedom and is over being a standard Idol. It's all about goals. Seungyeon is easily one of the most driven idols in the industry, and WANTS to be an idol. She has always wanted it. Some idols really have their heart in it to be idols, other have different goals (like founding their own company like Brian is doing, or JYP and YG did in the past). It's not really about money, although SOME idols are in it for the money. However, they WANT to be in it for the money. Kara is one of the biggest groups. Nicole doesn't need to make a decision based on money, i guarantee you that.
  2. I am gonna post this here since I can't make my own thread. Posting this on general kpop forums it won't be appreciated at all. So I am posting it here, even though I am not known here. I hope someone appreciates this at least. It's my thoughts, and an analysis of Nicole's situation. (Skip to bold if you want to hear my guesses for where Nicole is going) Listen, here is the thing. Any Kamilia will tell you Nicole has been shafted since 2011. 2011 she sued DSP, and DSP wasn't happy. Now, so did Seungyeon and Jiyoung, but A. Jiyoung was young and sorta bandwagoned on the train (and even then DSP does shaft Jiyoung) and Seungyeon essentially is the promotional Queen for Kara alongside Hara. ######ing Seungyeon means ruining Kara. What did they do to Nicole? They canceled all her activities and stopped any possible future ones. They took her off Star Golden Bell, and when has she been on variety since? Hell, why wasn't she on Radio Star? She wasn't busy, but DSP doesn't give a ######. Nicole wants OUT OF DSP. She doesn't care. She isn't making any money, and she doesn't have any freedom. So why stay in DSP? Now a quick note, recently Nicole expressed her desire to remain as a member of Kara. Read this: http://www.soompi.com/2013/10/07/dsp-media-responds-to-nicoles-desire-to-remain-as-kara-she-never-discussed-it-with-us/ See this is the thing, she is a nice girl, who wants relationships. She has so many friends, and won't break them. That's why she said that. The only possible situation I see is negotiating to promote as a member of Kara, but have her activities handled outside of DSP. That's all I can realistically see happening. So where is Nicole gonna go? Well see this is the thing. You forget, Nicole is probably one of the most liked and sociable idols in the industry. She is friends with the ENTIRE 91line basically. That includes Mir, Jinwoon, Key, and even ######in' CL of all people. Even Woohyun and stuff. Nicole is friends with basically the ENTIRE 91line. That doesn't mean she will go to their ents. That's an ENTIRELY different story. Nicole basically breaks the rules of Kpop. Companies aren't allowed to be friends, but Nicole sort of ruins that. Heechul (@yukistar9) also ruins that rule. Why? Neither of them give a single ######. Why? Because their ents were ######ing pricks to them/those they cared about and they stopped caring a long time ago. Now see this is the thing, UNLIKE HEECHUL, Nicole CAN leave DSP. Leaving SM basically means death. It means your career is over, JYJ style. Granted, JYJ sells, but they were the biggest idols EVER to grace the Kpop world. Therefore they are an exception. DSP is rubbish. Goddamn trash. They used to be Big 3, but they are no where near SS501 days. They ruined the company. The management changed and they died. Ajax and Rainbow are ###### promotion-ally, and all they have is Kara. Now they barely even have that anymore. So overall, Nicole can very well leave DSP and be fine career wise. So what ent will she go too? See, this is the entertainment industry, but Korea operates a little differently. Just having connections doesn't get you into a company. Let's look at them for a minute. YG-I don't care how good friends she is with anyone in YG, she isn't going to be accepted into YG. YG either accepts puppies he can hand craft (aka Akdong, Lee Hi, etc) or #1 in their respective fields (Psy is easily now the #1 solo and one of the hardest working and talented guys, Epik High are nothing short of geniuses and #1 rap group, hands down). Nicole is neither of those, and if anything already trained with a DIFFERENT mindset than YG wants. No on the YG front. SM-She is a female, something SM doesn't give a ###### about, and SM hates her. God damn the tension on Star Golden Bell when SNSD went on. they even called out Nicole asking if she was friends with the members, and it was sorta obvious not. Plus they are older. Yeh, sure, she knows Key, but Key doesn't have ANY sort of pull in SM. Hell none of their idols do. Short of MAYYYYBBBEEEEE Yuhno, Onew, Yoona, Taeyeon, Eunhyuk, and Donghae, no one in that company could pull ###### from SM if they wanted. And theoretically even IF THEY COULD AND WOULD PULL FOR NICOLE we know from JYJ, Yuhno is too much of a ######. Onew is high on success and wont risk his career. Yoona is retarded. Taeyeon isn't risking her career. Eunhyuk and Donghae won't clash against SM. They are Suju puppies. Sm isn't happening. JYP-Now JYP is interesting. They probably have the best relationship, and JYP is the most open out of all idols to allowing friendships. Example, ,Taec-Sica. That ###### was REAL bitches. JYP and YG are known friends, and probably the only ent that doesn't hate each others guts. Goddamn does SM despise YG and JYP. For good reason too. The only reason YG and JYP are friends is because they need to combat SM's industry pull. Alone they can't, together they can. So, would Nicole go to JYP? We need to look at JYP's history with Nicole and as an Ent. JYP has MANY of her friends. Including Mir and Jinwoon. However, Jinwoon was just sent out of commission so he doesn't matter. Bad, BAD timing if Nicole seriously wanted to move to JYP. Mir is also MBLAQ. Now you may not know, but JYP has awful relationships with Rain. Rain left JYP after Making MBLAQ. The old CEO of JYP is now the CEO of a sub-group under cube. THAT'S why Rain is in Cube. Park Jinyoung himself isn't on good terms with Rain. You leave, and JYP hates you. Ala Jay Park style. MBLAQ has no pull because of this. That's also why they aren't promoted. JYP doesn't care about them. 2pm are his little puppies. JYP has a STRIKING history of losing their best artists. From Hyuna, to Jay Park, to Rain, JYP seriously needs to get his potential soloists under control. Now look at who JYP took into the company AFTER THEY DEBUTED. Eh no one. Lol. He is sorta like YG. He cares about family, (especially after that solo, christ almighty Jinyoung), he likes training puppies, and LOYALTY is what he cares about. Nicole has no loyalty to him. Overall, she isn't going to JYP, regardless of her friends in the industry. So let's look at other ents. Cube. Cube is prolly one of the better ents when it comes to taking in old idols. In fact, 95% of cube (unlike JYP, YG and SM) are all ex-other ents. Half their company comes from those three alone. Nicole is friends with Cube members as well. But see this is the thing, Cube isn't taking in Nicole. Why? Too many female solos already. From Gna, to Hyuna, to the soon Shin Ji-hoon debut. On top of that, Apink are they new play things, and they intend to send one of them solo and turn one of them Hyuna-style. Stylistically Cube doesn't have ROOM for Nicole. It's not a matter of if they would let Nicole in, it's a matter of Cube not being a good choice for her because they wouldn't focus on her AT ALL. Nicole knows that, and Cube is definitely a no-go for Nicole. So that's basically all the ents. All her friends are in them, and realistically almost all the major idol groups from that 2nd Idol gen come from them. The ONLY other option is Pledis. I actually think Pledis is a pretty good ent. They try and promote members, and they KNOW THE ISSUE WITH AFTERSCHOOL. They aren't blind. They see it. Simply not a "big member" to promote after Kahi left. They also have two solos, Kahi and Dambi. Whether Kahi is a success and the next Hyori is going to heavily depend on this comeback, I believe. However, I doubt Nicole would go to pledis, even though she is friends with some of AS. I just don't see it being a fit for her, and she knows it. There is also Loen. I think Loen is a STRONG possibility I believe. Why? Solo artists, distribution power, connections within the company (aka IU) and they give their artists not only freedom, but have the power to get Nicole on variety, WHICH IS WHAT SHE WANTS. However, I think she has better options. Whether she CAN take them is a different story. She needs to pull the same move ex-first gen artists did. She needs to pull a Hyori, an Inyoung, etc. It's hard to become a powerful female solo, but those two did it. Seo In Young wasn't the most talented girl in Kpop, and matter of fact neither was Lee Hyori; sorry to say. Ock Joohyun is a billion times more talented than Hyori, but Hyori had the solo mindset. See the interesting thing is that Hyori left DSP, and I have half a mind to say Nicole is taking a page DIRECTLY from Hyori's book right now. Will she be the next Hyori? I really don't know. You can say no, but Hyori wasn't what she was UNTIL given artistic freedom AFTER leaving. I think Nicole could very well do it. Vocally she is where Inyoung and Hyori were, and she has the likability factor that Inyoung had (hell, she has more). So this is my prediction. There are actually two companies I feel she could go too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mnet_Media For those who don't know, CJ is probably....the third most powerful entertainment company in korea? (Read for ###### you don't need to know) So, Mnet/CJ E&M would be a great choice for Nicole. Not only do they have the promotional power to let her do WHATEVER she wants (T-ara, FTIsland, Hyori, Shinhwa too name a few), but it's home to multiple "I want to choose my career path" idols. What does that mean? Hyori left DSP, JUST like Nicole, and she left it for CJ. CJ allowed Hyori to do WHATEVER SHE WANTED, and had the power to promote her. On top of that Shinhwa was under them, and Shinhwa were really the first "let's go solo, but also promote as a group" idols (aka, what Nicole wants to do based on her post). They also have CNBLUE and FTIsland who have complete control over their music. She could sign directly with CJ, or sign under a subsidiary. The reality is she wants to sign with a company that DOESN'T have a ton of artists. Why? SHE WANTS THE FOCUS. Hyori was one and only under CJ. I think within CJ, if she had to sign with a company, she should sign with FNC (god damn not Core Content...ever). FNC only has Juniel as a solo. Juniel has a different style, and won't clash with Nicole. On top of that, FNC is the third most powerful korean "ent" in the game. SM, YG, JYP? Please. FNC has FAR more power and control than JYP does. FTIsland and CNBLUE stomp on anything JYP has to offer. NOT ONLY THAT, but in the entire Korean industry, who are the most powerful Japanese idols? In order, FTIsland>CNBLUE>Kara. Both in terms of Japanese promotions and Korean promotions, FNC has the power in terms of money, idols, and distibution label (CJ Group). The move would make sense for Nicole, and she would fit into the companies style. Sign under FNC/CJE&M. If I had to advise Nicole from both a business and career aspect, this is where she should 100% go. There is another other option, but it's unlikely to happen. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B2M_Entertainment It's where Hyori and SS501 are. It's essentially an "EX-DSP" company, that split off when the CEO left DSP and took many people with him. The idols they manage are Hyori, Heo Yeong Saeng, another SS501 irrelevant on top of him, SPICA, and Eric Nam. SPICA is highly talented, and the company does a fine job training idols vocally. Therefore, if Nicole wants to become BETTER (which she needs too, like Hyori and Inyoung did after going solo) she needs a company that could train her to be better. On top of B2M being all Ex-DSP (therefore Nicole 100% having connections), they offer the services Nicole would want. The ONLY issue is distributing power of B2M is a little weak. So is the power to get her to go on variety and etc. HOWEVER, it has Hyori. What does that mean? Honestly, Nicole knows Hyori. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY doubt she doesn't know her better than the majority of idols (relatively around the same time) and Hyori understands Nicole's position right now I would bet. If she went to the same ent, she would have the access of Hyori, and therefore the advice and mentorship of Hyori. That alone is a strong thing she could consider. How close and how open to helping Nicole, Hyori is, is something I don't know. I think this is unlikely, and I think FNC/CJ is a better move regardless. Hyori was once under CJ ANYWAY, so if she wants to copy her career path, she could do that. The third, but worst option for her is a smaller ent, like KeyEast (housing Kim HyunJoong, ex SS501 (and therefore connected to Kara/Nicole). KeyEast has promotional power specifically in variety for example, and connections. It could be an option, or another similar ent that does the same thing. However, against, it's no where near the previous two options. She needs to bandwagon one of those smaller, but still helpful ents that sign "ex-idols" until she is in a position to MAKE THE CALLS. Right now she is at the mercy of others, and the previous two might not be options. A smaller ent might be her only choice. Overall, I think Nicole has the talent and potential to make it as a solo artist. She is EASILY one of the most liked and respected Idols in the industry. Korea loves her. You can claim they like laughing AT her, but it's not that way. She is genuine, and kind. Otherwise she wouldn't be THE ONLY IDOL TO BREAK THROUGH THE HATE BETWEEN ENTS. No one else has done it, EXCEPT her. SM idols ARE NOT FRIENDS with anyone outside of SM. Aside from Nicole that is, and as I said before Heechul is the exception to this rule as well. Heechul, like I said before, can do whatever. He is a god among men in entertainment. However, i don't think Heechul has the talent to go solo, nor is in a position to ditch SM. Given Nicoles unique position, and being EXTREMELY liked in Korea (not unlike Hyori), she could easily advance her career. Whether you like Kara, or not, the reality is that Nicole is making a career move right now. Kara are the oldest idols in the business right now (excluding Suju, BB, TVXQ, and BEG), and it's about time they made a solo career. Kara's solo collection was the first step for that, but now Nicole wants more, and I don't blame her. It's time Kara stopped being Kara and moved on. Nicole is the first to make the step. She could remain an idol forever, stunt her growth as an artist and entertainer, be over worked and unable to make decisions, or take a small hit in the short run and bet on the long run. It's a simple idea. Invest a little in the short run, lose a little, but profit in the long run. Nicole is american. She isn't like the rest of these koreans. She doesn't sit down and take it up the butt (at least, not anymore). It's goddamn time. From a Kamilia, and one of Kara's most die hard supporters, go ######ing get it Nicole.
