yuda
The production cost for KARA's Tokyo Dome Concert who made 45.000 people go wild was approximately 6,000,000,000 KRW (around 5.5M USD). On January 6 2013, KARA held solo concert to greet New Year in Tokyo Dome Stadium which located in Tokyo, Japan. On last December 6 in 5 minutes after the ticket sales were opened it went sold out. On this day around 45000 fans gathered at the concert venue. The concert officials hinted before the concert started "this time around 6,000,000,000 KRW was put into the concert production". Even for the rapidly developing Japanese's entertainment industry too it's considerably a high production cost. KARA got approximately 5,000,000,000 KRW (around 4.7M USD) from ticket sales, also if combined with Advertisement and sales from goods it's forecasted that they will get revenue in total around 10,000,000,000 KRW (around 9.5M USD). Just by numbers, with 6 billion KRW of production cost and revenue of 10 billion KRW, there should be around 4 billion KRW of profit. However in reality we can't calculate it as easy as that. Other than production cost there are also additional expenses that are not cheap and also usually when holding an event in Tokyo Dome, the Tokyo Dome side will take around 30% of profit. Officials said "Since this is the first show, we still don't know whether it will be a profit or loss. We will count it after the show ended" On the other side, Tokyo Dome is the 'Dream Stage' for both Hallyu Star and even for Japan Top Star too. Even people from Japan's entertainment industry too are surprised that KARA who just debuted around 2 years able to occupy Tokyo Dome. They also said that even from all female stars in Japan who currently active, only AKB48 and Perfume who had held solo concert in Tokyo Dome. Tokyo Dome is highly considered as the last course for Japanese singers and with this, KARA's popularity in Japan can be felt. In Japan, starting from a small to medium building with capacity around 2000~3000 people, to Arena Tour with 10000~20000 people, and next performance in Tokyo Dome, are considered as a star's development course. radenoactive
Even after the 30% profit is deducted, there is still 2.8 billion Won clean profit, which is considerably an awesome amount to show the success of Tokyo Dome. So proud of the achievements ^^
ArtemisMaster
Don't forget the Merchandise sales also accounted to the additional profits too! The merchandise were all sold out and apparently it's a huge success for Kara Art Project merchandise too...

fantomas
I think it 's pretty normal for Tokyo Dome to take 30% profit, isn't that the same for everywhere else? Regardless, after deduct all the cost with the highest price possibly, I think DSP/UMJ will gain at least 1.5-2 million USD of profit, which is still amazing Edited January 10, 2013 by fantomas
iammai
Don't forget they had sponsors. There were also the sold license to live broadcast it to theaters. Then the license to broadcast it on TV. Then the DVD sales. Concert profits continue to roll in after the concert is done. They already factored the ticket + merch sales in their projected cost when they decided how much money they will put out. DSPoor they may be, but this is business. And DSPoor is *not* reckless. This article is roll-eyes-inducing funny. Oh Newsen! It's like "wow they spent a lot but they won't really earn that much in return" hahaha! k1234k
There are still DVD and Blu-ray sales to come, and since SkyPerfect was one of the 2 media sponsors, I have to believe that they will be releasing a Ska-pa video version for Cable TV before home video release. UMJ and DSP will milk it for all its worth, and that is fine as long as the girls get a good chunk of cash at the end of the day.
olzu
Didn't know that the hall's take so much profit from the events. Owner of Tokyo Dome is one rich man
helloworld
I thought Cuvilady is the main sponsor for this event. so thus about 30/40% of the production cost and promotion would've been paid by them.
WinterFrost
o_o, 4 billion KRW, where does it all go. you would think the 6 billion KRW production costs cover most of it, and then sponsors take a share. Still that's alot of money
NarKara
btw is this legit data? i'd take this more seriously if the info source were directly from DSP, but from Newsen (with tons of flab pics in it) site? xD
k1234k
I thought the idea of sponsors is to REDUCE the costs of production! That weird buttchair company should be the one paying for a big chunk of the production costs.
goldfish524
^^^ well i think they're saying that's how much the entire production cost, not necessarily how much was forked out by DSP alone.
Solin
It doesn't matter if Tokyo Dome concert didn't bring real profit in term of revenue because I see this concert as a gift for Kamilias and also as a realized dream for KARA. The concert was a success and it is the most important !
