A list from the Ministry of Culture revealed the songs that made the most profit from royalties and copyright revenue back in 2012. These profits come from not only downloads domestically and internationally, but fees received when songs are used such as when it's sung in Karaoke joints, performed overseas, etc.

KARA's catchy song "Mister", although released back in 2009, ranked first for the year of 2012 with about 362 million won (~ 341,000 USD). Girls' Generation trailed right behind with their song also released in 2009 "Gee", which earned approximately 359 million won (~ 338,000 USD). In third place was trot singer Park Goo Yoon's 2010 song "Only You" with an estimated profit of 249 million (~ 235,000 USD). Trot is known to do well even though it is not prevalent in music charts or shows as it is easy to sing along and well known by the public. It is also popular in Japan and the songs generally have a longer lifespan.

Following in fourth was another KARA 2010 song, "Jumping", which made about 237 million won (~ 223,000 USD). Last but not least was T-Ara's 2011 hit "Roly Poly" in fifth place with approximately 199 million won (~ 188,000 USD).

In 5th and 6th were more trot songs by Park Sang Chul and Shin Yoo.

For the income of copyright revenue made overseas in 2012, Japan made up 91.5% of the total. The country was responsible for the overwhelming majority of overseas income by spending 11 billion won (~ 10 million USD) on Korean music. Australia came in a far distant second place, having spent 150 million (~ 140,000 USD) in comparison.

I remember Mister topped the poll as the national song of Korea once before on some program. People tried to act like it wasn't a big deal because it was KARA and Mr. didn't win X weeks straight and KARA struggles to get Triple-crowns and you know...the usual KARA slander but it's obvious that in the end, KARA does something right. This is what us older fans mean when we say it's not always about the weekly awards. It's the stuff like this that is more important. Songs still earning them money years later. That's great for KARA.

this is what "Hit Song" really means: No matter how long has it been, no matter who is the competition, at the end of the day this song is still on the collective mind. I guess we all can agree that "Mister" has earned the label "Hit Song". Congrats to KARA! Let's celebrate, Kamilia!

On October 19, 2013, Kara received the Best Female Group Award at the Korean Entertainment 10th Anniversary Awards in Japan. On the video, it showed their co-finalists f(X), Sistar, 2NE1 and Girls Generation, and their ‘Mister‘ music video which claimed them the award!

of course in Japan KARA 1st. but the 3rd to 5th places are very suspect. because their sales in Japan are so weak, and the 6th group that didn't make the list has better sales than these three groups.

Firstly, my biggest apologies to everyone for not being active in Karaholic very often (it is so rare I know, really sorry) but I really want to highlight something: DID YOU NOT SEE THAT KARA HAS TWO SONGS ON TOP 5?

Congrats Kara! ^_^

I've always loved Kara not because they are the best group in Korea or in the world, but they are the best in my heart because of their songs and because they are who they are. They are lovable, hardworking and amazingly talented. To me the awards they have are just secondary, to listen to their songs and watch their performance is much more enjoyable (I would either scream or squeal lightly whenever they say they are going to release something new, songs or albums or whatever). So this news took me by surprise but it doesn't increase or decrease my love for Kara. They will always be Kara, my favorite singers. ^_^

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to share something. >.<
