As a former member of KARA, the Korean girls group leading the Kpop boom in Japan, Jiyoung (20) has started her acting career in Japan as 知英. She appears in a drama series that started airing this autumn. Furthermore, she aims to have international activities as
an "Asian actress" while taking advantage of being a language student.

At the film site of the drama series, "Hell Teacher Nube" (NTV, every Saturday night), she was nothing but exceptional.
Jiyoung's role is Yukime the Snow Woman who is in love with the protagonist. Her lines and script are in Japanese, same as the other cast members'.  She
is also without an interpreter while stage directions are in Japanese.

"They taught me difficult kanji characters, intonation, and stuff. Normal conversations and lines are different so they're still
difficult for me,
but I want to overcome [these difficulties]," she says with a smile.

Being familiar with Japanese in dramas, films, and all means that it is now common for her to be able to watch movies in
theatres. Japanese in Japan, Korean in Korea, English in England, she aims to have activities while fully immersed on the spot by taking advantage of being a language student.

"Since I am of Asia, which includes Japan, I want to go to all kinds of countries and do [activities there]."

In 2008, she became a KARA member at the age of 14, and has been in and out of Japan since 2010, even performing in
Kōhaku Uta Gassen. Having gathered popularity in various Asian countries, she withdrew from the group when her contract with the management company expired in Spring.

"Having activities as KARA was blissful beyond words [can describe]."

To recharge, studying abroad in London became a turning point for her.

"For four months, having free time to myself was a first, so I thought about what kind of person I want to become."

At the end of her worries, she signed under Sweet Power, an agency that aims to expand overseas. Rich in activities overseas,
it seems that she had developed an unconventional frame of mind.   Besides her captivating hearts through singing and dancing, right now it's her
"long-awaited acting" skills.

"I also want to do action and love comedy movies. I want my acting skills to be verbally recognized."

She will be featured as a detective in the NTV drama series "Higanbana" that starts broadcasting on the 24th.

Thankyou for the translation, @Dolla.

I feels really poor, weak, everytime I read jiyoung started her career as a kara member since 14 years old, and now she's really famous, doing really great on her new acting career in japan and she's only one years older than me...

She need to prove her acting skill! AND language skill! AND she would be again abroad. And she strikes right into action... Well, I hope she has strength enough to overcome all of this, 'cuz this isn't something every common person just handle out of box

That was the most touching sentence ever............ :'( my KARA5 feels!!!!

Anyway back to topic, can't wait to see her advance her career into other countries. She's still young, she has so much potential, pretty sure she'll be successful!! hope she returns to Korea soon though.

As much as it pains me to say this, I will always have such a huge respect for Jiyoung leaving the group to pursue another dream she had. She is truly an inspiration to anyone who is afraid to make a life changing decision and work hard for the result you want. FIGHTING!

since I also decided on a career change from nursing to cosmetology I can understand jiyoung's feelings a little bit.

you can do so well but there can be parts you just want to change. I will miss Jiyoung a lot bc I love her voice and songs, but I hope her the best in the future! I'll be sure to watch all her dramas and movies! ^______^
